Swirling Thoughts

I have a million ideas floating through my head. Okay. Maybe not a million but a lot. One of the things I’ve learned about myself through the Slice of Life challenge is that I have a lot more creativity in my head than I think.

I know that sounds funny coming from someone who is a freelance writer and editor. I have to use my creativity with words all the time – especially this week as I am working on a (paid) 1,700 word article under deadline.

Yet, I’m used to working with clients who give me a topic to research and write. A list of contacts. A main idea of the article. The start of questions to ask and answers needed.

This blog challenge has reminded me that my own thoughts are worthy of my words and creativity. And even if no one else reads them, they are worthy of my energy.

And now I must focus that energy as I have a million thoughts swirling through my head. Okay. Maybe not a million. Just a lot!

I’m attempting to take part in the “The Fifth Annual Slice of Life Story Challenge” through the month of March. The challenge is run by Two Writing Teachers.

I’ve noticed a distinct uptick in my verbal creativity this month, too! So exciting. So glad we decided to take the plunge 🙂

    So true.
Thank you so much for letting me know about this challenge.
I have not felt such joy to create in years.

Every day, when I read other people’s written, I get so many more ideas in my head that I want to write about. If only I had more time…

“My own thoughts are worthy of my words and creativity. And even if no one else reads them, they are worthy of my energy.” Great line. Great value. The comments have been AMAZING and I am so grateful, however, I have to remind myself (and think about how this impacts students) that the reason to write is me.

I hope you got your paid writing completed or a good start to it. This challenge does up the creativity game. There are some amazing writers out there. Your matching beginning and ending has an impact. Super!

I love the relaxed and genuine voice in this piece, Jessica. I’ve noticed the same thing in the last 8 days. I didn’t think I’d last 3 days, but each day I find something to write about. A million . . a lot . . . same thing. 🙂

    Jessica,
I know what you mean. I’m finding the greatest challenge to be time to think about the writing. I try to pick my idea the night before and then spin it in my head during the day. Then I sit down in the evening to write about it. The hardest thing is that the post is in such a rough form. I feel like the writing I’m posting is more worthy of a notebook than being tossed out into the world, but since the challenge is making me write. I’m going to just keep trying to make it work. Thanks for helping me to know we’re all trying to work through the hard parts. It is the community that makes it all worth it!

Good luck with your article. I am finding just the opposite; I am struggling this time with a lack of creativity. Season of life? Lack of sleep? Maybe I just need to look closer. Thanks for the push.
